Whose Knowlege Economy is it Anyway? 2009


The second Creative Brighton event, part of the Brighton Festival and sponsored by Sussex University, took place at the Pavilion Theatre, and looked at how the creative sector functions within the Knowledge Economy. And what is this mysterious knowledge economy anyway? The panellists did their best to unravel the conundrum, giving their views based on many years of experience in the sector. Panellists included Lewis Biggs, Artistic Director, Liverpool Biennial of Art, and Kirk Woolford, Lecturer in Material Digital Culture, Sussex University.

poster digi zeitTaking place during the Brighton Festival at the Pavilion Theatre, with an audience of 200, the first debate in 2008 was themed on the Digital Zeitgeist. Chaired by new media expert Bill Thompson, the speakers were Guardian Unlimited, Beth Appleton, Head of Digital UK at Universal Music Group and Matt Locke, Channel 4 commissioning editor for New Media.  Followed by a VIP reception, the evening aired issues around the digital feature, how Brighton businesses could engage with the big player’s commissionning process and a lot of useful networking.
